The 27th Civil Engineering Research Reception, themed “Smart for You, Smarter for the City? Modelling Travel Adaptations during Disruptions,” explored whether individual travel adaptations during recurring disruptions can lead to improved network-wide performance. The study examined this by comparing network-level traffic conditions under two situations: when travellers follow their usual travel patterns and when they adapt their travel behaviour in response to disruptions. Accordingly, the study highlights the importance of modelling traveller behaviour during recurring disruptions to better understand their implications for urban road network performance.
